Advicon Imaging accepts NSW Compulsory Third Party (CTP) claims for X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound and image-guided procedures after a car, motorcycle or other motor vehicle accident. There is no patient gap fee for an approved examination. We bill your CTP insurer directly.
Diagnostic imaging is often an important part of assessing injuries after an accident, and it helps your treating practitioner plan your treatment and recovery. We understand that dealing with an insurance claim at the same time can be stressful, so our administration team manages the paperwork and billing on your behalf.
All you need to arrange your appointment is your imaging referral and your insurer's approval letter.
Have you been injured at work? See our Workers Compensation imaging page.
Depending on your injury, your referral and your insurer's approval, we can provide:
Not every examination is offered at every clinic. Contact us with your referral and we will arrange your appointment at the most convenient location.
No. Once your imaging is covered by your CTP claim, Advicon Imaging invoices your CTP insurer directly and there is no patient gap fee.
SIRA, the NSW CTP regulator, sets the fees that apply to treatment and services under a CTP claim. We bill your insurer at those rates and manage the paperwork.
Your insurer's approval letter confirms which examinations they have agreed to fund. If your approval does not cover the examination your doctor has requested, we will contact you before proceeding.
To have your documents checked before you book, email contact@advicon-imaging.com.au or call your nearest clinic.
Your CTP claim needs to be lodged before imaging can be billed to your insurer. CTP Assist, SIRA's free help service, can walk you through it. Call 1300 656 919.
CTP claims in NSW are managed by the insurer of the vehicle involved, and the scheme is regulated by SIRA. CTP Assist supports people injured in a motor crash in NSW and can help you:
Phone:1300 656 919, 8.30am to 5pm on weekdays
Email:ctpassist@sira.nsw.gov.au
Web:sira.nsw.gov.au
Your GP is part of the process too, as a medical certificate is generally required when lodging. Time limits apply to CTP claims in NSW, so it is worth acting promptly. CTP Assist or your insurer can explain what applies to your circumstances.
Advicon Imaging cannot lodge or progress a claim on your behalf. Once your imaging is covered we can arrange your appointment.
The claim goes to the CTP insurer of the vehicle involved, not to your own comprehensive car insurer. If you do not know which insurer that is, CTP Assist can help you identify and contact them. Call 1300 656 919 or email ctpassist@sira.nsw.gov.au.
You choose your own imaging provider. Under the NSW CTP scheme there is no approved provider panel for diagnostic imaging. icare's guidance for CTP clients is that you choose your own providers, and that a current provider may recommend someone they have worked with.
Things worth thinking about: how close the clinic is, whether it offers the examination your doctor has requested, and whether it bills CTP insurers directly so you are not out of pocket.
If your referral names a different provider you can still choose to attend Advicon Imaging. Bring the referral with you.
Advicon Imaging accepts CTP referrals from doctors, specialists and other eligible healthcare practitioners, and works directly with CTP insurers and case managers on approved examinations.
Billing. We invoice the CTP insurer directly at the applicable SIRA fee rates. The patient is not billed and there is no gap.
Prior imaging. Comparison with earlier studies can help distinguish accident-related findings from pre-existing change, which is often a point of contention in CTP claims. Let us know at the time of referral and we will arrange access where possible.
Reports are returned to the referring practitioner.

Advicon Imaging also accepts NSW workers' compensation claims. See our Workers Compensation imaging page.
Your imaging referral and your CTP insurer's approval letter if one has been issued. It also helps to bring your claim number and photo ID.
If you are not sure whether you have everything, email contact@advicon-imaging.com.au or call your nearest clinic before your appointment and our team will check for you.
Yes. Advicon Imaging performs 3.0T Wide Bore MRI examinations for CTP patients where the MRI is covered by your claim.
MRI is often used to assess soft tissue injuries that do not appear on an X-ray, which is why it is commonly requested after a motor vehicle accident. It is also more likely than other examinations to be reviewed by an insurer before approval, and your referring doctor arranges that request.
The wide bore design has a larger opening than a standard scanner, which many patients find more comfortable when they are in pain. Available at selected Advicon Imaging clinics.
Whether you need a scan after a car accident is a decision for your doctor. Not every injury needs imaging, and your GP or the hospital will assess whether a scan is appropriate based on your symptoms. If imaging is needed, they will provide a referral.
If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident, see a doctor even if you feel able to manage. Some injuries take days to present, and a medical certificate is generally required when lodging a CTP claim.
That depends on your injuries and your doctor's assessment. Some imaging is done in hospital immediately after an accident, while other scans are arranged later once symptoms have settled or if pain persists. Your referring doctor will advise on timing.
A motor vehicle accident that happens during work may involve both a workers' compensation claim and a CTP claim. Your employer, your insurer or your treating doctor can advise which claim covers your imaging.
Whichever scheme applies, the process at Advicon Imaging is the same. Provide your referral and the approval letter from the relevant insurer, and there is no patient gap fee. See our Workers Compensation imaging page for more on WorkCover claims.
Keep the tax invoice and receipt, and send them to your CTP insurer with your claim number to request reimbursement. If you need an invoice reissued, contact the clinic where you had your scan.
Book online and bring your referral with you, email your referral and CTP approval letter to contact@advicon-imaging.com.au, or call your nearest clinic. You can also send your documents through our Upload Referral / Request Form and our team will help arrange the appointment.
